    Estimating the Monetary Value of Information Privacy in the Context of SNS

    The dramatic growth of SNS has created a myriad of information privacy. To achieve our objective, first, this study estimates the monetary value of information privacy by using the CVM. Second, it is estimated how the monetary value of information privacy would change according to demographic information, SNS usage cycle information, the Characteristics of SNS users, and the SNS features. As a result, sensitive SNS users for information privacy have following characteristics: 30s, higher education, less Monthly Expenditure or far more monthly expenditure, lower SNS use ability, more number of followers, little event experiences, shorter SNS experience, higher account open limit level and privacy invasion experiences. Also, the total WTA mean is $28/number. The monetary value of information privacy according to SNS features have the following characteristics. Those who use private SNS, the value of Profile, Location information, and the purpose of Sharing and Friendship are more important

    Current-induced domain wall motion in a nanowire with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy

    We study theoretically the current-induced magnetic domain wall motion in a metallic nanowire with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. The anisotropy can reduce the critical current density of the domain wall motion. We explain the reduction mechanism and identify the maximal reduction conditions. This result facilitates both fundamental studies and device applications of the current- induced domain wall motion

    A Green Flag over Mobile Industry Start-Ups: Human Capital and Past Investors as Investment Signals

    Crowdfunding and online start-up platforms are becoming important communication tools for start-ups and investors. Existing literatures on online start-up platforms usually focus on reward-based crowdfunding platform, which do not offer any equity to backers. In addition, there have not been many empirical researches about equity-based crowdfunding due to the novelty of the regulation. This study analyzes the association between funding amount and early stage start-ups’ underlying characteristics, the type of past investors, and influence of investors in the context of equity-based crowdfunding. The distinction of our research is the aspect of approach that we use population data from online start-up platform for the mobile industry. We find that start-up’s funding outcome is positively related to start-up’s human capital and pure investors. Moreover, our study extends theoretical understanding of the importance of human capital and past investors in start-up, and also contributes to the entrepreneurship literature by examining creditable signals for early stage start-up investment

    Ultrasound-guided ethanol ablation for cystic thyroid nodules: effectiveness of small amounts of ethanol in a single session

    Purpose The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of ethanol ablation (EA) in the treatment of cystic thyroid nodules using low-dose ethanol regardless of the initial volume of the nodule or properties of the aspirate. Methods Sixty-one nodules in 60 patients were treated with EA from October 2013 to January 2020. In each patient, EA was performed only once, using less than 5 mL of ethanol (99.5%) instilled and removed completely after a few minutes of retention. Nodule volume, the symptom score, the cosmetic score, and complications were evaluated before and after treatment. The therapeutic success rate (TSR) and volume reduction rate (VRR) according to nodule volume and properties of the aspirate were evaluated. Therapeutic success was defined as the absence of any residual fluid or sufficient volume reduction (≥50%) with improvement of nodule-related symptoms. Results The 61 nodules comprised 38 pure cysts and 23 predominantly cystic nodules. The initial nodule volume was 21.9±15.2 mL (range, 4.4 to 77.2 mL). The TSR was 88.5% (100% in pure cysts and 69.6% in predominantly cystic nodules, P<0.001). The TSR of pure cysts was 100% regardless of nodule volume and properties of the aspirate. In predominantly cystic nodules, the TSR and VRR gradually decreased as volume increased. One patient experienced arrhythmia during the procedure, but completely recovered without sequelae. Conclusion Single-session EA using low-dose ethanol might be effective for the treatment of symptomatic cystic thyroid nodules regardless of the initial cyst volume and properties of the aspirate, especially in pure cysts

    Mechanical filtering characteristics of passive periodic engine mount

    a b s t r a c t The transmission of automotive engine vibrations to the chassis is isolated using a new class of mounts which rely in their operation on optimally designed and periodically distributed viscoelastic inserts. The proposed mount acts as a mechanical filter for impeding the propagation of vibration within specific frequency bands called the &apos;&apos;stop bands&apos;&apos;. The spectral width of these bands is enhanced by making the viscoelastic inserts operate in a shear mode rather than compression mode. The theory governing the operation of this class of periodic mounts is presented using the theory of finite elements combined with the transfer matrix approach. The predictions of the performance of the mount are validated against the predictions of the commercial finite element code ANSYS and against experimental results obtained from prototypes of plain and periodic mounts. The obtained results demonstrate the feasibility of the shear mode periodic mount as another means for blocking the transmission of vibration over a broad frequency band. Extending the effective width of the operating frequency bands of this class of mount through active control means is the ultimate goal of this study
